KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 33-year-old businessman, Charles Brown, has been charged with larceny by trick and fraudulent conversion after reportedly deceiving his pregnant partner and defrauding her out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
According to reports from the May Pen police, Brown, a resident of Hopewell Road in Waterford, St. Catherine, was entrusted with managing the rental payments for a property intended for his girlfriend’s business. Under their agreement, Brown was supposed to make monthly payments of $50,000 on her behalf. Between March and September, the woman transferred these payments to Brown’s account, totaling approximately $450,000. In addition, she covered labor and renovation expenses to prepare the space for the business.
However, just as the business was nearing completion, Brown reportedly claimed ownership of the establishment and instructed his pregnant girlfriend to vacate the premises. To make matters worse, it was later revealed that the actual rent for the space was $40,000 per month, not the $50,000 Brown had told her.
Feeling betrayed, the woman reported the incident to the police on Sunday, September 22. The following day, Brown turned himself in to authorities, where he was officially charged with larceny by trick and fraudulent conversion.
This case highlights the importance of financial transparency, especially in personal and business relationships, to avoid such incidents of betrayal and fraud.
