KINGSTON, Jamaica – Chukka Caribbean Adventures is significantly increasing its investment efforts in response to a projected surge in cruise tourism throughout the Caribbean over the next five years. CEO Marc Melville announced the strategic expansion, highlighting the company’s commitment to capitalizing on the region’s growing appeal to cruise travelers.
Melville emphasized that the Caribbean is on track to become an even more dominant force in global cruise tourism. “The Caribbean’s allure as a top-tier cruise destination is set to expand dramatically. Chukka is excited to play a pivotal role in this growth by offering unparalleled adventure and authentic cultural experiences that attract and satisfy cruisers from around the world,” he remarked.
In the past year, Jamaica alone welcomed over 1.3 million cruise passengers, showcasing its enduring popularity. Melville pointed out that Jamaica’s year-round attractions, cultural richness, and stunning natural landscapes make it a favorite among visitors seeking both excitement and relaxation.
Recent data released by Chukka revealed that global cruise passenger numbers for 2024 reached approximately 36.3 million, with the Caribbean accounting for 15.4 million—representing 42% of the worldwide total. Projections for 2025 anticipate a rise to 37.9 million global passengers, with the Caribbean expected to welcome 16.3 million, increasing its share to 43%.
Looking further ahead, the industry forecasts that by 2029, annual cruise passengers will grow to 43 million globally, with the Caribbean projected to host 17.8 million visitors. This represents a 15.6% increase in the region’s passenger numbers since 2024, underscoring the Caribbean’s robust position and its capacity for sustained growth in the cruise sector.
Melville also highlighted emerging trends, such as shorter cruise itineraries with more frequent stops in destinations like the Bahamas and various Caribbean locales. While private islands continue to feature prominently in these routes, the broader Caribbean region benefits from the increased visitation. “Chukka is proud to provide unique and immersive excursions that enhance the overall cruise experience, offering something beyond the typical port visit,” he added.
Chukka Caribbean Adventures is renowned for its nature-focused adventures and culturally immersive tours, ensuring that visitors gain a deeper appreciation for Jamaica and the Caribbean’s heritage and natural beauty. Melville noted that Jamaica’s infrastructure, cultural appeal, and scenic attractions make it an essential stop on any Caribbean cruise itinerary, especially with the introduction of new mega-ships.
“To support the anticipated growth, Chukka has been proactively expanding our tour offerings and strengthening our partnerships with major cruise lines. Our focus on sustainable adventure tourism, combined with our strong connections to local communities, ensures that our activities not only delight guests but also contribute to the long-term sustainability of the Caribbean’s tourism industry,” Melville concluded.
With these strategic investments, Chukka Caribbean Adventures is poised to remain a key player in the flourishing Caribbean cruise market, delivering exceptional experiences to travelers and fostering economic growth within the region.
