Dancehall’s newest force, Bad OG, has struck a match under the genre’s summer soundtrack with his high-energy single “Lit Tonight.”
Released four weeks ago on Gassy Ink Records—the imprint owned by his father, reggae stalwart Gassy Ink—the track has zipped onto playlists from Kingston to London and beyond. According to radio tracking reports, it’s enjoying multiple spins on prime-time slots across the Caribbean, North America and parts of Europe.
“The traction feels different this time,” Bad OG told reporters. “Everywhere I turn, DJs are pulling it up. That kind of momentum tells me we’ve made something special.”
Born Stevaughn Antonio Barrett and raised in Arnett Gardens, the deejay began recording professionally in 2019 with “Live The Life” for Gold Rvss. Rugged early releases such as “Skeptic,” “Blame On Me,” and “Believe” built a modest following, but “Lit Tonight” is shaping up to be his career catalyst.
Behind the scenes, father and son have been plotting a calculated rollout: targeted radio promotion, influencer takeovers, and a street-team campaign hitting key dancehall hubs. “We’re treating this like a championship sprint,” Bad OG said with a grin. “The plan is aggressive, but so am I.”
The 24-year-old isn’t content with a single spark. Sessions are already underway for several follow-up tracks, culminating in an EP slated for next year. “I want a catalogue that can stand next to the greats,” he noted. “Singles first, then we bundle the pressure with an EP. No lull, no gaps.”
Industry watchers are paying attention. A&R executives monitoring Jamaican trends have flagged “Lit Tonight” as a breakout candidate for regional charts, citing its crisp production and Bad OG’s assertive delivery.
Whether the prediction holds, one thing is clear: Bad OG’s flame is officially lit—and he’s pouring gasoline.
