JamWest Speedway, Little London, Westmoreland—The 2025 Drift Ruption championship opened in spectacular fashion last Sunday (June 15), where Montego Bay’s own Chris-John Addison powered his LS3-swapped Nissan 350Z—nicknamed Cammy—to a decisive first-round triumph.
Addison’s switch from his famed Toyota Corolla AE86 to the torquier 350Z proved immediately fruitful. “The AE86 taught me finesse, but I needed more straight-line pace and angle to stay ahead of the pack. The Z platform delivers both,” he said trackside, acknowledging the exhaustive off-season overhaul that put him in contention. The original VQ engine was replaced with a stock 6.2-litre Corvette LS3, giving the 2006 chassis the punch required for JamWest’s long sweepers and sudden switchbacks.
Variable weather kept crews guessing—standing water one minute, drying tarmac the next—but Addison adapted fastest. Through qualifying and tandem battles alike, he strung together high-angle entries and unwavering proximity, dispatching every challenger en route to a crowd-pleasing final against fellow Z-pilot Sheldon “ZBoss” Johnson. Door-to-door through the “S-Bend,” Addison’s consistency edged Johnson to seal the win, drawing thunderous approval from the grandstands on Father’s Day—an occasion he dedicated to his father, Christopher.
Behind the scenes, Addison’s former AE86 now serves as a proving ground for his younger brother Myles, underscoring the family’s long-term investment in the sport. “Drift Ruption has always been a grind, but this season we came prepared to chase the title with both cars,” Addison added.
Series promoter Kingsley Scott hailed the opening round as a benchmark for Jamaican drifting. “Full grandstands, a deep driver roster, and two V8-powered Zs battling for the win—it’s a statement that the discipline is maturing rapidly,” Scott noted. The five-event calendar continues next month, where Addison will look to extend his early points lead and edge closer to the national crown he’s long targeted.
With new machinery dialed in and momentum firmly on his side, Chris-John Addison heads into Round Two as the man to beat—and the Drift Ruption faithful are ready for the showdown.
