KINGSTON, Jamaica — A violent domestic dispute in Rae Town on Sunday ended with two lives lost and an official investigation under way.
According to preliminary police reports, a man known as “Rashad” confronted his 43-year-old cousin, Niesha Williams, shortly after 3:00 p.m. Witnesses say the altercation escalated quickly; Williams was stabbed repeatedly and rushed to hospital, where doctors could not save her.
Responding officers tracked the suspect a short distance from the scene. Investigators state that the man, still armed, advanced on the patrol. The officers opened fire, fatally wounding him.
The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched its routine inquiry into the police shooting, and detectives from Kingston Eastern are gathering statements to establish what sparked the fatal confrontation. Counsellors have been assigned to assist grieving relatives, while community leaders call for calm as the investigation unfolds.
