A man once trusted in the quiet duties of service is now at the centre of a violent multimillion-dollar robbery case.

Police in St James say Nicoy “Nick” Ramsay, 31, a butler from Esher in Hanover, has been formally charged after investigators tied him to a dramatic hold-up in June that left a company driver wounded and millions stolen.

The incident unfolded along the busy stretch linking Upper Bevon Avenue and Market Circle, when two employees of a trading company were moving through the area in a motor truck. Their routine journey was cut short when two armed men allegedly blocked their path. In the chaos, approximately $7 million was taken, and the driver was struck and injured in the process.

What began as a frantic report from the shaken employees grew into weeks of careful police work. The turning point came on September 17, when Ramsay appeared at the Negril Police Station with his attorney. Handed over to detectives in St James, he was placed in an identification line-up where witnesses pointed him out as one of the men behind the attack.

He now faces charges of robbery with aggravation and unlawful wounding, with a court date soon to be announced. Meanwhile, police continue their search for the second assailant, as one of Jamaica’s more audacious roadside heists moves from rumour to courtroom.
