After more than a decade away from album releases, veteran singer Sanchez steps back into the spotlight with Jamdown, a vibrant new project produced by Kenneth Thompson of Kenergi Music Entertainment and distributed by VPAL Music.
Released on April 11, Jamdown arrives at a time when fans have been eager for fresh material from Sanchez, whose last album, Love You More, came out in 2011. Known for his smooth voice and catalogue of reggae-dancehall anthems, Sanchez’s career has been defined by hits like Never Dis di Man, One In A Million, and End of the World.
The road to Jamdown began when Thompson, a New York-based producer and longtime admirer of Sanchez’s work, reached out through a mutual contact. Though he had considered several artists for his upcoming project, it was Sanchez’s enthusiasm and professionalism that sealed the deal.
“I had options, but Sanchez’s energy was different. He was ready, and that made the choice simple,” Thompson said.
Unlike traditional projects where outside writers are often brought in, Thompson took a hands-on approach. He penned or co-penned all 10 tracks, building songs like Disloyalty and Hot Girls around themes drawn from personal experiences and everyday narratives. The title track, Jamdown, serves as a lively nod to Jamaica’s enduring cultural influence.
Rather than forcing a sound or chasing trends, Thompson focused on crafting music that would naturally suit Sanchez’s signature style—something he credits to years of listening closely to the singer’s evolution.
“Sanchez’s voice carries emotion effortlessly,” Thompson said. “I knew whatever we wrote had to match that spirit.”
Jamdown isn’t just a return—it’s a reminder. A reminder that Sanchez remains one of reggae’s most recognizable voices, and that with the right collaboration, timeless artistry can always find new ground.
