GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands — The Cayman Islands community mourns the loss of Romario Jacquet, a 26-year-old resident from Rockfort, East Kingston, who lost his life in a devastating single-vehicle accident on Thursday morning.
Early Thursday, Jacquet was behind the wheel of his Subaru sedan when the collision occurred, resulting in his untimely death. In addition to Jacquet, three other individuals sustained serious injuries and were promptly admitted to local hospitals for treatment.
Police Commissioner Kurt Walton expressed deep sorrow over the incident, noting that Jacquet’s family is now facing immense grief during what should be a joyful festive period. “Instead of celebrating the season, this family is enduring a heartbreaking loss,” Walton stated.
This tragic event adds to a series of severe traffic incidents in the Cayman Islands this year. Just hours before Jacquet’s accident, another serious crash occurred, injuring three people. With Jacquet’s death, the total number of road fatalities in the Cayman Islands for 2024 has reached thirteen, including three fatalities reported in December alone.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision as the community grapples with the repercussions of these recent road tragedies.
