Mowatt’s Construction, Concrete and Equipment Rental Limited, a trusted family-operated enterprise renowned in the ready-mixed concrete industry, is set to broaden its operations into the housing market.
The company has recently submitted a proposal to develop over 51 residential units in the Lambridge area of Farm Pen, Westmoreland. This initiative has received partial endorsement from the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), marking a significant step forward in Mowatt’s expansion strategy.
Building on a foundation established in 2022, when Mowatt’s secured approval to subdivide approximately 33,906.200 square meters of land in the same vicinity, the new application aims to transform the previously designated 55 residential plots, along with allocated open spaces, sewage systems, and infrastructure for road enhancements, into a thriving residential community.
This move from land subdivision to actual housing construction underscores Mowatt’s commitment to realizing the Lambridge project. Attempts by the Jamaica Observer to obtain a statement from the company regarding this new development were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
Mowatt’s entry into the housing sector arrives at a critical time, addressing the escalating need for residential properties in Jamaica, especially in areas like Westmoreland that are experiencing growth in rural and suburban populations.
With a solid reputation in the construction industry, supported by its expertise in ready-mixed concrete and equipment rentals, Mowatt’s is poised to make a significant impact in real estate development. Should the Lambridge housing project receive full approval, it will not only increase the local housing inventory but also fulfill the infrastructure improvements outlined in the initial subdivision plan.
Before moving forward, the project will undergo a thorough environmental assessment to ensure that it meets all community and environmental standards. Mowatt’s diversification into residential construction is reflective of a wider trend where construction firms are leveraging their specialized skills to cater to the rising demand for housing across the region.
