KINGSTON, Jamaica — St. Thomas Eastern is witnessing a striking reduction in major criminal activity, an achievement being celebrated by local leadership as a milestone for public safety. Member of Parliament Dr. Michelle Charles recently reported that major crimes have fallen by nearly two-fifths when comparing figures for this year against the previous twelve months, a decline she attributes to the determined efforts of the police and their growing rapport with residents.

During her presentation in the State of the Constituency Debate at the House of Representatives, Dr. Charles highlighted that recorded major offences within the Morant Bay, Port Morant, Golden Grove, and Bath areas are substantially lower than the previous year’s tally. According to her data, major crimes have dipped from 74 incidents last year to 46 this year — a noteworthy decrease that includes fewer instances of murder and break-ins.

Dr. Charles commended the local constabulary’s dedication, noting that their sustained presence, strategic patrols, and community trust-building initiatives have fostered a more secure atmosphere. She also acknowledged the constituency’s residents, who, by working in tandem with law enforcement, have contributed to a safer and more stable environment.

As St. Thomas Eastern continues to develop, Dr. Charles’ remarks signal a positive trajectory in public safety. This downward trend in criminal activity not only enhances the day-to-day lives of citizens but also sets the stage for ongoing economic and social growth within the region.
