KINGSTON, Jamaica — A pre-planned police raid at a St Andrew commercial property on Friday, December 6, ended with the arrest of a Farewell Avenue businessman found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The individual, identified as 47-year-old Michael Nelson, now faces multiple charges as a result of the operation.
Investigators initiated the targeted action at Nelson’s establishment on Constant Spring Road, reportedly acting on intelligence gathered in previous weeks. During the coordinated search, Nelson produced a Taurus GZC pistol and a magazine containing six rounds of 9mm ammunition. Authorities took immediate custody of both the weapon and ammunition.
Following his detention, Nelson underwent a formal question-and-answer session with law enforcement officials, accompanied by his legal representative. He was subsequently charged with possessing a prohibited weapon and unauthorized ammunition. The court date for Nelson’s appearance has not yet been determined.
This incident is part of a broader effort by law enforcement agencies to clamp down on the illegal possession and distribution of firearms throughout the parish. Police officials continue to encourage the public to report any suspicious activities that could lead to the removal of illegal weapons from local communities.
