Reggae sensation Chronixx has reached a significant milestone in his career as his 2019 collaboration Eternal Light, with American R&B group Free Nationals, was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on Wednesday. The track, which was featured on Free Nationals’ debut album, has now sold the equivalent of 500,000 units in the U.S., combining both digital sales and streams.
This marks Chronixx’s first gold certification in the U.S., a monumental achievement for the reggae artist. Two years prior, his hit single Who Knows, a collaboration with fellow Jamaican artist Protoje, was certified silver in the U.K. for surpassing 200,000 in sales.
Eternal Light is part of Free Nationals’ self-titled debut album, which also received critical acclaim and earned a Grammy nomination in the category of Best Progressive R&B Album. The fusion of reggae and R&B on Eternal Light showcases Chronixx’s ability to transcend genres and appeal to a global audience.
Chronixx, born Jamar McNaughton and hailing from Spanish Town, Jamaica, has steadily built a reputation as one of the foremost voices in modern reggae. A former student of St. Catherine High School, he began his musical journey in his late teens, quickly rising to prominence within Jamaica’s vibrant music scene.
In 2017, Chronixx released his first full-length studio album Chronology, which was nominated for Best Reggae Album at the Grammy Awards. The album topped Billboard’s Reggae Album chart, cementing his place as a reggae powerhouse. His earlier EP Dread & Terrible (2014) also found success, topping the same chart.
Throughout his career, Chronixx has delivered a string of iconic hits that resonate with fans worldwide, including Smile Jamaica, Odd Ras, Behind Curtain, I Can, Here Comes Trouble, and Alpha and Omega.
With the gold certification of Eternal Light, Chronixx continues to elevate his craft and global presence, further solidifying his place among reggae’s greats.
