ATLANTA, GA — In an exhilarating display of speed and precision, Jamaica’s rising star, Sasha McKenzie, shattered the national record in the 200m sprint at the Atlanta Track Invitational on Sunday. McKenzie powered down the track in an astonishing 21.90 seconds, outpacing a competitive international field and setting a new benchmark in Jamaican athletics.

With the crowd roaring in support, McKenzie exploded from the starting blocks, displaying flawless technique and unmatched determination. “This record is not just a personal milestone—it’s a tribute to the hard work, the community, and the spirit of Jamaican sprinting,” she remarked during a post-race interview.

The race proved to be a nail-biter. American sprinter Keisha Roberts came in a close second, finishing in 22.02 seconds, while Canadian athlete Emily Li secured third place with a time of 22.15 seconds. The tight competition underscored the global talent on display, making McKenzie’s record-breaking performance even more remarkable.

Beyond the thrill of victory, McKenzie’s achievement carries significant implications for her future on the world stage. As anticipation builds ahead of the upcoming World Championships, her historic run injects renewed excitement into the realm of track and field.

In recognition of her outstanding performance, McKenzie was awarded a prize of US$75,000. The financial reward, along with the honor of breaking a long-standing national record, marks a defining moment in her burgeoning career and sets the stage for what promises to be a bright future in international sprinting.
