Blue Skies Beach Resort, a boutique retreat on Negril’s iconic seven-mile beach, is now on the market as its owner, Dana Kurtz, embarks on a new chapter closer to family in America.

Once a celebrated civil rights lawyer in Chicago, Kurtz reinvented her career to pursue a long-held dream of hospitality. After decades of courtroom battles, she traded legal briefs for beachfront vistas when she opened the resort in 2019—a haven that quickly became known for its warm, family-like atmosphere and authentic Jamaican charm.

The property, featuring 16 meticulously designed suites and rooms, offers guests intimate reggae dinner shows, a second-story lounge with breathtaking sunset views, and a relaxed beach bar complete with playful swings. Even during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Blue Skies maintained a steady flow of local visitors, capitalizing on its natural appeal and cozy ambiance.

Kurtz, who now looks forward to a more family-centric life in Tulsa, where her extended family resides, is asking US$3.995 million (approximately JMD 627 million) for the turnkey operation. “I’ve poured my heart into creating a space that feels like home for every guest,” she explains. “I hope the next owner shares that passion, continuing the legacy of exceptional service and community spirit while also nurturing the talented team who’ve been with me from day one.”

Beyond its current offerings, the resort holds significant growth potential. With approved permits in place, future development could include an additional seven rooms, five luxury suites, a two-bedroom villa, as well as enhanced leisure facilities like a pool, spa, and fitness center. Investors even have the unique opportunity to participate through a crowd-funding arrangement, with stakes available for 15 interested cash buyers.

As Blue Skies continues to welcome reservations and run regular promotions, Kurtz remains actively involved in upholding the high standards that have made the resort a cherished destination. Yet, her heart is set on returning to Tulsa to ensure her daughter, Reanne, grows up surrounded by the warmth of a big, close-knit family—a tradition that defined her own upbringing.

This transition marks not only a change of ownership but also the beginning of an exciting new era for Blue Skies Beach Resort. For those with a vision to further develop this slice of paradise, the opportunity is ripe to build on a legacy of heartfelt hospitality and lasting community connections.
