ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — In response to escalating unrest in Spanish Town, Unicomer Jamaica has temporarily shut down two of its stores, including the Lucky Dollar and the Courts Bargain Centre on Young Street, following a recent fire set in the area.

The fire broke out shortly after the fatal shooting of suspected gang leader Othneil Lobban, known as ‘Thickman.’ The blaze engulfed the Courts Bargain Centre, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Errol Le Blanc, Managing Director of Unicomer Jamaica, expressed relief that the store’s staff remained unharmed. “While our inventory can be replaced, the safety of our employees and customers is irreplaceable,” Le Blanc emphasized.

Dianne Dunston, Head of Sales for Unicomer Jamaica, assured the public that the company is maintaining close communication with local law enforcement to assess when it will be safe to reopen the Lucky Dollar. “We are monitoring the situation carefully and will coordinate with the police to determine the appropriate time for reopening,” Dunston said.

Although the Young Street location remains closed, the Courts Bargain Centre on Kings Street in Kingston continues to operate. Additionally, the Courts Spanish Town Oasis store remains open, with management actively collaborating with local authorities to ensure the safety of all involved.

Unicomer Jamaica is committed to providing updates on the reopening of the affected stores as the situation in Spanish Town evolves.
