ST. JAMES, Jamaica – A fierce fire tore through a residential property in Peace View, St. James, on Saturday afternoon, leaving six individuals, including two children, without a home.
The blaze reportedly began shortly after noon and rapidly consumed the five-apartment wooden structure. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as thick smoke and flames engulfed the property. Residents scrambled to safety, with two adults sustaining minor injuries during the ordeal.
Firefighters from the Montego Bay fire station responded with two units and were able to bring the fire under control before it reached neighboring buildings. Despite their efforts, the structure was completely destroyed, and damages have been estimated at $4 million.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the building was not insured, compounding the hardship faced by those affected. Community members are now rallying to support the displaced families, who lost all their possessions in the fire.
Authorities are urging caution as investigations continue into the cause of the incident.
