Miztrizz, the Canadian-born artist with Jamaican roots, is pushing boundaries and redefining her sound. After a thrilling nomination for Top Reggae Song of the Year (Female) at the Reggae North Music Awards, the singer, known for her reggae hits, is charting new territory with her latest venture into dancehall. The nomination for her track Let Me Know was a moment of personal triumph, even though she didn’t win. For Miztrizz, it was a validation of her hard work and a sign that she is headed in the right direction.
“Being recognized at such a level, even without the win, made me realize that this journey is bigger than just one song or one award,” Miztrizz shared with excitement. “It’s a reminder to keep moving forward and expanding my musical limits.”
Her passion for music started early. As a child, Miztrizz was drawn to the stage, singing in choirs and later performing in theater concerts. However, it wasn’t until later in life that she fully embraced her calling to music. Though reggae has always been her foundation, Miztrizz is not one to shy away from new challenges. Her latest single Wine and Jiggle, produced by Jamaican talent Wai Fusion, marks her bold step into dancehall—a genre she’s always admired.
“I’ve been around dancehall for a long time, especially through my involvement in dance choreography and following sound crews,” Miztrizz said. “With Wine and Jiggle, I wanted to bring something fresh to my listeners, exploring deeper and more intimate aspects of relationships—something I hadn’t done before.”
Her foray into dancehall is just one part of a larger vision for Miztrizz. She’s currently working on an upcoming EP, slated for release early next year. Co-produced with Wai Fusion, the project promises to explore human experiences, particularly around love and intimacy, with a more sensual tone than her previous works. With collaborations on the way, Miztrizz is excited about where this new phase of her career will take her.
“I’ve learned so much in this journey—about myself and about my music,” Miztrizz reflected. “Each step forward brings me closer to my true voice, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”
