Juliet Cuthbert Flynn, Member of Parliament for St Andrew West Rural, took aim at Opposition Leader Mark Golding during her speech at the annual Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) conference on Sunday. In a fiery address, Cuthbert Flynn accused Golding of fostering a leadership style that restricts the potential of the Jamaican people.
Cuthbert Flynn criticized Golding’s alleged tendency to flaunt his wealth, describing him as someone who revels in boasting about his riches. She called for the Jamaican public to reject him in the upcoming General Election, arguing that his attitude was out of touch with the struggles of ordinary citizens.
She also expressed strong disapproval of Golding’s leadership within the People’s National Party (PNP), stating that he often belittled the Jamaican people. Referring to his alleged comments about “black people” and the way he referred to them as “likkle bwoy” and “likkle lady,” Cuthbert Flynn emphasized the need for a more empathetic and grounded leader.
Further, Cuthbert Flynn pointed out the history of business dealings involving Golding and PNP figures like Peter Bunting, who she claimed profited from government policies in ways that hurt ordinary Jamaicans. She portrayed these past actions as indicative of the kind of leadership that does not serve the nation’s best interests.
In closing, Cuthbert Flynn urged Jamaicans to stand behind the current Prime Minister, Andrew Michael Holness, whom she praised as the true leader who is guided by a vision for the betterment of the country. “We know that we have the better leader,” she declared, reinforcing her call to “say no to Marky British” and rally behind Holness.
