KINGSTON, Jamaica — With severe weather sweeping across Jamaica, the government announced extended closures of public offices on Tuesday, prioritizing the safety of both workers and the community.
According to the official statement, public sector employees capable of working from home are urged to leverage digital tools provided by their respective agencies, ensuring services continue where possible. Essential and emergency personnel, however, are advised to travel with care as they work to maintain vital operations for the public.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness reiterated the government’s stance on safety, saying, “Our top priority remains the safety and wellbeing of all Jamaicans. We’re grateful to our essential workers and ask them to take necessary precautions while commuting. For those who can, please work remotely to help ensure continuity in our services.”
The government further advised the public to stay updated on weather-related guidelines issued by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), stressing the importance of heeding official advisories for personal safety.
