KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Meteorological Service of Jamaica (Met Service) has issued a warning about unstable weather conditions expected across the island over the next few days due to a broad trough of disturbed weather in the western Caribbean.
A flash flood watch is now in effect for vulnerable areas, particularly low-lying regions and flood-prone zones in St Thomas, Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St James, and Trelawny. This alert will remain in place until 5:00 PM on Monday.
Currently, the weather system is situated southwest of Jamaica and is projected to bring periods of showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be intense. The most significant impacts are anticipated in southern and northwestern parishes from Monday through mid-week.
In addition to heavy rainfall, strong gusty winds are expected, particularly in southern parishes and offshore areas. As a result, the Met Service advises fishers and other marine operators to exercise heightened caution due to deteriorating sea conditions linked to the anticipated thunderstorms and winds.
The Met Service is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepare for potential weather-related disruptions.
