KINGSTON, Jamaica — A broad trough in the western Caribbean is generating unstable weather conditions expected to affect Jamaica over the next few days, according to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica (Met Service). As a result, a flash flood watch has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas in multiple parishes until 5:00 pm on Monday.
The parishes under the flash flood watch include St Thomas, Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St James, and Trelawny.
The weather system, currently situated southwest of Jamaica, is forecast to bring periods of heavy showers and thunderstorms, primarily impacting southern and north-western parishes. These conditions are expected to persist through Monday and continue into the middle of the week.
In addition to rain and thunderstorms, the Met Service has warned that strong, gusty winds will affect southern parishes and offshore marine areas. Fishers and other marine interests are urged to exercise caution, as sea conditions are expected to worsen due to the combination of thunderstorms and high winds.
The Met Service will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions to safeguard against potential flooding.
