KINGSTON, Jamaica — Restaurant Associates Limited (RAL), the franchise operator for Burger King Jamaica, has reaffirmed its commitment to the care and well-being of its employees following the explosion at its New Kingston branch on Wednesday. The company has been in constant communication with medical teams attending to the injured employees and is ensuring they receive the highest standard of care.
In a statement released on Friday, RAL shared that all three employees with visible injuries are currently in stable condition. One employee was discharged after treatment on Wednesday, while two others, who sustained burns, were initially admitted to Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) overnight. As of Thursday evening, one of the injured employees was transferred to the Tony Thwaites Wing at the University of the West Indies for further treatment.
RAL also expressed its readiness to facilitate any necessary medical transfers, both locally and internationally, should any of the victims require more advanced treatment.
“We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the public for the outpouring of support, well wishes, and concern for the victims and their families during this difficult time. Your compassion and encouragement mean a lot to the entire RAL and Burger King Jamaica family,” the statement read.
The company extended its appreciation to first responders and members of the public who acted swiftly and professionally following the explosion. “Their efforts, alongside the brave members of the public who immediately assisted in caring for the injured and transporting them to the hospital, have been nothing short of commendable,” RAL continued. The company also expressed its desire to personally thank the good Samaritan who quickly transported one of the injured employees to the hospital, noting their vital role in the situation.
In addition to physical care, RAL is taking steps to support the emotional well-being of its employees. Professional counselling services have been arranged for both the injured team members and any staff affected by the incident.
The company assured the public that it is working closely with the relevant authorities and service providers to investigate the explosion, which was reportedly triggered by a gas leak. They are committed to implementing any necessary safety measures to prevent future incidents, emphasizing that safety remains a top priority across all their locations.
“Our goal is to ensure that the highest safety standards are enforced across all locations,” RAL stressed.
The explosion on Wednesday injured six employees, with three showing visible injuries. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported. All affected individuals were immediately taken to the hospital for assessment and treatment. RAL has pledged to continue providing support to its employees and to maintain open communication with the public as the investigation progresses.
