S Hotel Jamaica has demonstrated its commitment to community development by donating $5 million to the Project STAR programme, a community initiative that has shown significant results in improving safety and opportunities in marginalized areas.
Christopher Issa, CEO of S Hotel Jamaica, praised the impact of Project STAR, which has been active for the past 18 months. He noted, “Research conducted by the Project STAR team shows a downward trend in major crimes across all the communities influenced by the project. This contribution will significantly bolster the impactful work being done to uplift marginalized communities.”
Issa highlighted the importance of supporting initiatives like Project STAR, having seen the positive changes they bring to the communities they serve. “Our goal is to strengthen these efforts and ensure a brighter future for those in need,” he said, underscoring the hotel’s commitment to social responsibility and community improvement.
Keith Duncan, co-chair of Project STAR, expressed his gratitude for the generous donation, acknowledging the critical role that private sector support has played in the programme’s success. “As we complete two years of the Project STAR initiative, the support from the private sector has been invaluable. This backing has enabled us to extend our reach into five communities across Jamaica, where we are seeing tremendous results,” Duncan stated.
Duncan further elaborated on the achievements of Project STAR, noting the programme’s focus on social cohesion, early childhood education, parenting initiatives, and economic opportunities such as job creation and entrepreneurship. “We’ve established community governance structures that are yielding impressive, data-driven results, including a reduction in crime levels,” he said.
He added that the $5 million donation from S Hotel Jamaica would significantly support ongoing efforts, emphasizing the importance of investing in communities. “We are incredibly thankful for their contribution, as it underscores the importance of investing in our communities. Project STAR exemplifies what is possible in Jamaica when we unite as a society to invest in our people and communities,” Duncan remarked.
This recent donation is part of S Hotel’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the community. In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, the hotel was among the first to contribute $1 million to aid victims in Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth. Christopher Issa emphasized that these contributions reflect the hotel’s dedication to making a tangible difference in the lives of Jamaicans.
“Ideally, this is just part of our ongoing commitment to aiding communities in times of need. Our contributions reflect our belief in giving back and making a tangible difference in the lives of Jamaicans,” Issa said. Through these initiatives, S Hotel Jamaica continues to demonstrate its role as a socially responsible organization dedicated to fostering positive change in the country.
