TOKYO, Japan — Jamaica’s Samantha Hall wasted no time making her mark at the World Athletics Championships, punching her ticket to the women’s discus final with a season-defining performance on opening day.
Hall, competing in Group B of the qualifiers, overcame a shaky start with a foul on her first attempt. She regrouped in round two with a steady 60.20m throw before uncorking a 63.32m effort on her third and final attempt — a distance good enough to elevate her from 14th to 8th overall and secure her a place among the world’s elite in the final.
The Jamaican national champion and reigning NACAC titleholder continues to build her legacy on the international stage. Her 63.32m mark now ranks as the third-best of her career and stands as her top performance at any global championship to date.
Hall had previously struggled to find rhythm at major meets, registering 56.99m in Eugene (2022), 58.43m in Budapest (2023), and 54.90m at the Paris Olympics. But in Tokyo, the trajectory is different — sharper, more composed, and battle-hardened.
The women’s discus final is set for Sunday afternoon in Japan, aligning with Sunday morning viewing in Jamaica. All eyes will be on Hall as she aims to convert qualifying grit into podium glory.
