KINGSTON, Jamaica — Sheryl Lee Ralph refuses to step out of the spotlight.
The Jamaican-American icon has landed yet another Emmy nomination—her fourth in a row—for her role as the no-nonsense educator Barbara Howard in the hit comedy Abbott Elementary. It’s a return to familiar territory for Ralph, who won the award in 2022 and continues to be a force in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
This year’s lineup is no easy crowd. Ralph shares the nomination slate with standout names including Hannah Einbinder (Hacks), Kathryn Hahn and Catherine O’Hara (both for The Studio), Janelle James (also of Abbott Elementary), and Jessica Williams (Shrinking).
The 77th Emmy Awards ceremony will unfold on September 14, setting the stage for another possible win—and another moment of pride for Jamaica’s entertainment legacy. For Ralph, the message is clear: excellence is not a moment, but a pattern.
