A decade ago, the idea of a Jamaican-owned, plant-based skincare brand competing in local and international markets was rare. Today, Self-Care at Tiphanie’s, founded by registered nurse Tiphanie Smith-McLinch, is part of a growing movement redefining the industry.
Formally established in 2019, the company manufactures over 30 products including soaps, body butters, cleansers, shampoos, conditioners, serums, and aromatherapy items—all produced from a dedicated lab in Junction, St Elizabeth.
Originally developed to address her son’s skincare sensitivities, Smith-McLinch’s formulations shifted from personal use to commercial production following increasing demand. The COVID-19 pandemic provided unexpected momentum: during Jamaica’s hand sanitizer shortages, Self-Care at Tiphanie’s was among the first to supply Bureau of Standards-certified products at scale, solidifying its retail credibility.
Retail and Distribution
Today, the brand is available across multiple pharmacies islandwide—Fontana, Gateway Pharmacy, St Bess Pharmacy—and within JBDC’s Things Jamaican stores located at Devon House, Camp Road, and Norman Manley International Airport.
Expansion Into Hospitality
Smith-McLinch has since targeted Jamaica’s hospitality sector, developing exclusive product lines for hotels seeking locally produced, sustainable skincare amenities. A key partnership is currently underway with a resort opening in Treasure Beach, marking the brand’s formal entry into hotel supply chains.
Training and Development
Beyond production, Self-Care at Tiphanie’s offers training workshops in soap-making and product formulation, contributing to the broader goal of building a local manufacturing ecosystem capable of reducing reliance on imports.
Export Strategy
With online sales already reaching North America and Europe, the brand is preparing for a more aggressive export push, beginning with distribution partnerships in Florida.
Looking Ahead
The long-term vision includes the development of a holistic wellness facility integrating skincare, health services, and self-care education—positioning Self-Care at Tiphanie’s as more than a product brand, but a central player in Jamaica’s emerging wellness economy.
