Elise Seignolle, recently elected president of the Pan American Boxing Confederation (PAC), begins a five-day working visit to Jamaica today, underscoring the island’s growing influence in regional boxing.
Her itinerary centers on Saturday night’s Gloves Over Guns Futures Showcase at Kingston’s historic Stanley Couch Gym, where emerging Jamaican talent will trade punches with visiting athletes from the Cayman Islands and the United Kingdom.
Jamaica Boxing Association (JBA) president Stephen Jones says Seignolle’s trip is more than a courtesy call.
“Welcoming the PAC president so soon after World Boxing’s Boris van der Vorst stepped through our doors confirms Jamaica’s momentum,” Jones told reporters. “Elise wants the Americas to set the global pace, and we intend to be the region’s innovation hub.”
Seignolle, a former international boxer who shifted to administration after hanging up her gloves, captured the PAC presidency earlier this year; Jones was simultaneously elected to the confederation’s executive board.
Over the next five days Seignolle will tour training facilities, meet sports-ministry officials, and discuss development grants aimed at expanding youth programmes such as Gloves Over Guns. The visit is expected to lay the groundwork for future Caribbean training camps and continental qualifiers to be staged in Kingston.
“With Elise’s endorsement, Jamaica is positioning itself as the heartbeat of Caribbean boxing,” Jones added. “We’re ready to deliver.”
