The West Indies Women’s cricket team wrapped up their preparations for the World Cup Qualifiers on a sour note, suffering a five-wicket defeat to Pakistan in Lahore on Monday.
Missing several of their star players, the Caribbean side struggled to put runs on the board after choosing to bat first. Despite a gritty unbeaten 68 from Shabika Gajnabi and a fighting 41 from Jannillea Glasgow, the West Indies only managed a modest 188 for eight in their 50 overs.
Pakistan’s bowlers kept the pressure tight throughout the innings, with left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal causing plenty of problems to snatch 3 for 21. Nashra Sandhu chipped in with two wickets as well, ensuring the visitors never found their rhythm.
In reply, Pakistan’s batting looked organized and unfazed. Vice-captain Muneeba Ali led the charge with a polished 87, while Natalia Parvaiz added a steady 53 to guide the hosts home with nearly four overs to spare. Gull Feroza’s quick cameo further extinguished any hopes of a West Indies comeback.
The result hands Pakistan their second straight warm-up victory, following their dominant performance against Thailand.
Meanwhile, the West Indies must quickly regroup as they shift their focus to Wednesday’s must-win opener against Scotland in the Qualifiers.
