KINGSTON, Jamaica — In a heartwarming family moment, Michael Lawson and his partner, Tasha Reid, attended the 115th ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships with their young daughter, Zoe. The National Stadium was buzzing with excitement, but for this couple, it was a special opportunity to witness one of Jamaica’s proudest traditions through fresh eyes.
Tasha, a former high school sprinter at Cornwall College, reminisced about her own days competing in the championships. “I’ve been to Champs countless times before, but this time, it felt different. Watching it all again, but now through the lens of a parent, I felt like I was reliving those moments with a deeper appreciation,” she shared.
For Michael, the event was both an introduction to Jamaica’s sports culture and a chance to experience the energy he had heard so much about. “Tasha’s told me all about the atmosphere, but nothing compares to seeing it in person,” he said, clearly impressed by the electric crowd and fierce competition.
While the track was filled with elite athletes showcasing their talents, it was clear that for Michael and Tasha, the day was about family and the future. Holding Zoe close, they shared stories of past competitions, setting the stage for a future where their daughter might one day be part of the spectacle herself. For this young family, the Championships were more than a celebration of athleticism; they were a living, breathing piece of Jamaica’s rich cultural heritage.
