Holmwood’s Silent Storm: A New Era in the Making

In a championship often defined by noise, flair, and fanfare, Holmwood Technical High School is choosing silence — but not out of fear.

Ahead of this year’s ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships, set for Tuesday through Saturday at the National Stadium, Holmwood has turned inward. There are no grand predictions. No bold headlines. Just quiet preparation and an unwavering belief that something special might be brewing.

Ten-time champions, last atop the podium in 2013, Holmwood’s past is decorated. But it’s not nostalgia they’re chasing — it’s reinvention. Head Coach Dave Anderson is leading the charge with a revamped philosophy: keep your head down, do the work, let the performance speak.

“We’ve kept it low-key this season,” Anderson shared. “No media waves. Just training, fine-tuning, and focusing on execution.”

That shift in energy is already showing dividends. The team’s second-place finish at the Central Championships — right behind perennial contenders Edwin Allen — hinted that the Christiana-based school isn’t just participating this year. They’re positioning.

Yet, there’s no scoreboard obsession. No detailed medal projections. The strategy is day-by-day, race-by-race. “We’re not getting ahead of ourselves,” said Anderson. “We’ve asked the girls to show up, be present, and own every event they’re in.”

Among those set to lead the charge is captain Kiara Meikle — calm under pressure, confident in her stride. Alongside her are Holmwood’s rising stars: the explosive Rose sisters (Jovi, Cindy, and Kerita), the versatile Florence Nafamba, and the ever-reliable Abrina Wright and Tracey Evans. Each name, a thread in what could be a thrilling new chapter.

For a school that once claimed nine straight Girls’ Champs titles between 2003 and 2011, the weight of legacy is real. But this squad isn’t carrying it like a burden. If anything, they’re rewriting what legacy means.

No promises. No theatrics. Just a silent storm building momentum in the shadows.

This week, when the stadium lights blaze and the starter’s gun echoes, don’t be surprised if it’s Holmwood making the loudest statement — without ever raising their voice.
