Authorities at Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) intercepted a major drug trafficking attempt on Wednesday, detaining two British nationals in connection with a multimillion-dollar cocaine bust.
Sources indicate that law enforcement personnel conducting routine security screenings became suspicious of a male passenger preparing to board a British Airways flight to London. Upon closer examination of his luggage, officers discovered approximately 15 pounds of cocaine meticulously hidden within the lining of his suitcases.
Shortly afterward, a female traveler undergoing a separate security check raised similar concerns. A thorough search of her baggage led to the discovery of an additional 16 pounds of the illicit substance, packed in a similar fashion.
The total estimated street value of the confiscated narcotics stands at JM$92.7 million, making it one of the most significant airport drug seizures in recent months.
Investigators are now working to determine whether the pair were acting independently or as part of a larger drug smuggling syndicate. Their identities remain undisclosed as authorities intensify their probe into the case.
