KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Scorpions have stepped up to the crease with a measured start after the Guyana Harpy Eagles posted a competitive first-innings total of 339 on day two of their regional first-class clash at Sabina Park.

With just three overs faced before the lunch break, openers Odain McCatty and Kirk McKenzie are yet to get off the mark, leaving the Scorpions at 1-0 as they prepare for a crucial response.

Earlier in the day, the Harpy Eagles, resuming from their overnight total of 260-5, lost their last five wickets in quick succession, adding only 79 runs to their tally. Kevlon Anderson, who had retired hurt the previous day after reaching 100, returned to extend his top score to 116 before falling to pacer Odean Smith, caught behind by wicketkeeper Aldaine Thomas.

Other notable contributions came from opener Matthew Nandu (61) and middle-order batter Kemol Savory (48), but the Eagles struggled to capitalize further as the Scorpions’ bowling attack tightened its grip.

Odean Smith was the pick of the Jamaican bowlers, delivering a career-best spell of 5-68—his first five-wicket haul in four-day cricket. Captain Marquino Mindley bowled with control to claim 2-36, while leg-spinner Tamarie Redwood finished with figures of 2-109.

With the pitch offering assistance to both batters and bowlers, the Scorpions will look to build a solid foundation in their first innings as the contest unfolds.
