ST MARY, Jamaica – A man who allegedly aimed a firearm at police officers managed to escape into nearby bushes after a tense confrontation in the Enfield community on Wednesday.
Authorities say officers from the St Mary Operational Support Team were responding to reports of a stabbing at a local shop in Juno Pen. Upon arrival, residents identified a suspect involved in the altercation. As officers moved to apprehend him, he retreated into a yard, prompting a police pursuit.
Moments later, another individual reportedly appeared from behind a house and pointed a firearm at the officers. Reacting swiftly, the police drew their weapons, but before they could engage, the armed man fled the scene on foot.
Despite the escape of the gunman, the initial stabbing suspect, 29-year-old Dillon Ferguson, was taken into custody and has since been charged. Fortunately, no life-threatening injuries were reported from the earlier incident.
Law enforcement officials have launched a manhunt for the fugitive and are appealing to residents with any information to assist in the ongoing investigation.
