KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Court Administration Division (CAD) has announced that court proceedings at the Spanish Town and Old Harbour courts, scheduled for Thursday, have been postponed due to the declaration of a State of Public Emergency (SOE) in St Catherine South. This measure follows a recent uptick in violent crime in the area.

The suspension also follows the tragic killing of Othneil Lobban, also known as “Thickman,” the alleged leader of the One Order Gang, who was fatally shot at Six Miles in St Andrew late Wednesday evening.

“The safety and well-being of all court participants, including users, staff, and other stakeholders, remain our highest priority,” CAD stated. “We are actively working to balance the administration of justice with the necessary steps to ensure everyone’s safety during this time.”

Court users with scheduled hearings are encouraged to reach out to their respective court or the CAD at 876-586-9783 for more information. The CAD also promised to release a list of rescheduled dates shortly.

“We sincerely appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we navigate this challenging period,” the CAD concluded in its statement.
