PARADISE, Westmoreland — Mystery and grief surround the tragic death of 20-year-old Jimoy Suckoo, who was fatally shot in a Clarendon hotel room while with her police officer boyfriend. As conflicting accounts emerge, her family is calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances of her death.
The incident, which occurred at Hotel Versalles in May Pen, has left the small community of Paradise, Westmoreland, reeling. Jimoy, affectionately known as Janay, was a well-loved bartender known for her warmth and humor. Her godmother, Joan Barnes, described her as “a friendly and decent young woman” who brightened the lives of everyone around her.
“She didn’t deserve this,” said Barnes tearfully. “Everyone in the community loved her, and now we are left with so many unanswered questions. It’s heartbreaking.”
Conflicting Accounts
Initial reports from the police stated that Jimoy was shot in the chest with the officer’s service weapon, a Glock pistol. However, her mother, Nadine Suckoo, revealed disturbing discrepancies when identifying her daughter’s body.
“They told me she was shot on her left side, below her breast. But when I saw her body, there was a gunshot wound on her face, right between her nose and upper lip,” Nadine said, her voice filled with anguish. “Something doesn’t add up.”
The officer involved has provided two different accounts of the incident. In one version, he claimed that he placed the gun on the bed where Jimoy was lying and turned his back when he heard a loud explosion. In a later statement, he said the gun accidentally discharged as he tried to secure it after it slipped from his hand.
Community and Family Demand Answers
The family’s concerns have been heightened by unverified reports from a neighbor who alleged there was a heated argument between Jimoy and her boyfriend the day before the shooting.
“This needs a proper investigation. We need the Government, INDECOM, everyone to get involved,” pleaded Barnes.
INDECOM has since launched an inquiry, examining the scene and swabbing the hands of both Jimoy and the officer for gunshot residue. The officer’s service weapon was also recovered for forensic analysis, and further questioning of the officer is expected.
Unresolved Questions
Adding to the family’s anguish is the mystery surrounding Jimoy’s personal belongings. According to Nadine, Jimoy owned two iPhones, but only one has been retrieved by authorities.
“The other phone is still active on social media. We need that phone,” Nadine insisted, questioning its whereabouts.
As the investigation continues, Jimoy’s family remains steadfast in their demand for justice. Her death has not only devastated her loved ones but also left the community of Paradise grappling with the loss of a young woman whose life was cut tragically short.
“We just want to know the truth,” Nadine said. “We deserve to know what really happened to my daughter.”
