KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaican sprint sensation Alana Reid has made a bold move in her athletic journey by switching to a new training group at the University of Arkansas. The World Under-20 100m champion, fresh off her gold medal victories at the 2023 World Athletics U-20 Championships in Lima, Peru, is now part of the renowned Hurdles Mechanics team, marking a new phase in her career.

Previously, Reid honed her skills with the Star Athletics team in Florida under coach Dennis Mitchell, where she worked alongside notable athletes such as American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson. However, in her latest move, Reid will train with Jamaican Olympic stars Ackera Nugent and Nickisha Pryce under the experienced guidance of coach Lawrence ‘Boogie’ Johnson.

After completing her high school career at Hydel High, Reid chose a professional path over a scholarship offer from the University of Oregon, sealing her decision with a signed contract. Her performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she contributed to Jamaica’s relay efforts, further solidified her status as one of the country’s top young sprinters.

With a personal best of 10.92 seconds in the 100m, set during the 2023 ISSA Champs, Reid’s determination and talent continue to drive her forward as she targets even greater accomplishments in the world of athletics.
