KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Reggae Boyz are set to play two high-stakes friendly matches against Trinidad and Tobago in early February, according to the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF). These matches will serve as a critical part of the team’s preparations ahead of the CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifying round.
The first match will take place on February 6 at 7:30 pm at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, followed by a second fixture on February 9 at 8:00 pm at Kingston’s Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Both teams are gearing up for the Gold Cup preliminaries, which will kick off in March. Jamaica will go head-to-head with St. Vincent and the Grenadines in their bid to reach the group stages, while Trinidad and Tobago will face Cuba in their own qualification efforts.
JFF President Michael Ricketts discussed the importance of these friendlies in enhancing the team’s readiness. “Coach McClaren has long advocated for opportunities to assess domestic-based players, and these friendly matches are an ideal setting for that,” he explained. “This is our third consecutive year opening the campaign with games against Trinidad, and it has proven to be a productive experience each time. Last year’s matches helped us prepare for both the Gold Cup and Nations League, and we are confident that this year’s games will be crucial as we continue our World Cup Qualifier preparations for June.”
As both teams fine-tune their rosters, these upcoming fixtures are poised to provide essential match experience ahead of the critical international tournaments on the horizon.
