KINGSTON, Jamaica— Kingston is set to ignite with creativity and celebration as the city hosts its inaugural Arts and Culture Night on Friday, January 26. This event, spearheaded by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport, aims to spotlight Jamaica’s vibrant artistic talents while revitalizing downtown Kingston as a hub for cultural expression and community gatherings.

The evening will feature a dynamic lineup of activities, including live performances, art installations, food festivals, and interactive workshops spread across key locations downtown. The event will culminate with a grand cultural parade and a spectacular light show over the waterfront.

Minister Olivia Grange expressed her excitement, stating, “Arts and Culture Night is a celebration of the creativity and resilience that define our people. It’s a chance for Jamaicans and visitors to experience the magic of Kingston in a whole new way.”

Key Highlights of the Event:

  • Art Galleries and Installations: Local and international artists will showcase their work at pop-up galleries along Harbour Street and West Street.
  • Live Music and Dance: Performances by renowned reggae, dancehall, and jazz artists will be held at the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) Park.
  • Food Village: A culinary journey featuring traditional Jamaican dishes and contemporary fusion cuisine will take place at Ocean Boulevard.
  • Workshops: Interactive sessions on Jamaican drumming, dance, and craft-making will be open to attendees of all ages.

Traffic and Parking Adjustments

To accommodate the event, the Jamaica Constabulary Force has announced temporary traffic changes. Beginning at 3:00 pm on Friday, the following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic:

  • Harbour Street
  • Princess Street
  • King Street (partial access near UDC Park)
  • Orange Street

Parking Facilities:
Attendees are encouraged to utilize designated parking areas, including the JCC Multi-storey Car Park, Orange Street Multi-storey Car Park, and Temple Lane Car Park. A shuttle service will run from Heroes Circle to the event site for added convenience.
