PARIS, France — Kylian Mbappe has firmly denied any involvement in a Swedish rape investigation that surfaced after his recent trip to Stockholm, his legal team revealed on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old football sensation, who currently captains the French national team, found his name unexpectedly entangled in the case, as Swedish media outlets speculated about his involvement. However, Mbappe’s lawyer, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, has assured the public that the athlete is both “calm” and “completely innocent.”
“Kylian is not fazed because he knows he has done nothing wrong,” Canu-Bernard said. “He was surprised to see his name mentioned in such serious accusations, but he remains confident that the truth will come out.”
The investigation, which was launched by Swedish authorities, does not explicitly name Mbappe. Nevertheless, reports from major Swedish news outlets, including Aftonbladet and Expressen, claim that the Real Madrid star was the subject of the inquiry following a brief visit to Stockholm with friends.
Despite the growing media storm, Mbappe has chosen to focus on his training and daily routine, trusting that his legal team will address the situation. His lawyer emphasized that steps will be taken to protect Mbappe’s reputation.
“We will be filing a defamation suit to ensure that these baseless allegations don’t tarnish his image,” Canu-Bernard confirmed. “Kylian is committed to clearing his name and won’t tolerate unfounded rumors.”
Swedish prosecutors have issued a statement acknowledging the ongoing investigation but have not named any specific individuals, leaving much of the case shrouded in ambiguity.
For now, Mbappe remains focused on his responsibilities on the field, while his legal team navigates the complexities of the case.
