ST JAMES, Jamaica — A man suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run accident that left a police constable seriously injured is now in custody. The suspect, identified as Dillion Reid, also known by the aliases “Bulby” and “CJ,” turned himself in to law enforcement on Saturday, accompanied by his attorney.
Reid had been the subject of a police manhunt following the incident on Friday, which occurred during a roadblock operation on the Granville main road near St Johns.
Superintendent Eron Samuels, who heads the St James Police Division, detailed the sequence of events, stating that a white Toyota Probox was flagged down by officers at the roadblock. Although the vehicle initially appeared to comply, it suddenly accelerated when nearing the officers, striking the constable and propelling him over a nearby precipice.
The injured constable was found unconscious at the bottom of the precipice and was promptly rushed to Cornwall Regional Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
The police credited the public for their cooperation in helping advance the investigation swiftly, noting that community assistance played a significant role in locating the suspect. The Jamaica Constabulary Force expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing how public involvement contributed to the progress in this case.
Further details regarding charges or court appearances for Reid have yet to be announced as the investigation continues.
