Colin Bell has announced his withdrawal as the People’s National Party (PNP) caretaker for Portland Eastern. In a video shared on YouTube, Bell cited internal challenges, particularly a lack of support from certain councillors within the constituency, as the reason for stepping down.
“I am not going into politics to lose, and if there are forces against me within my space, sometimes you have to give people what they want,” Bell explained in the video, hinting at the difficulties he faced during his candidacy.
Despite his decision to step back, Bell urged his supporters to rally behind the next candidate that the PNP will select to represent the constituency in the upcoming general election.
Bell was initially chosen by the PNP last year to challenge the sitting Member of Parliament for Portland Eastern, the Jamaica Labour Party’s Ann-Marie Vaz. His withdrawal leaves the PNP searching for a new contender to go up against Vaz in the next general election.
