SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland — Teleperformance, a leading global player in the business processing outsourcing (BPO) industry, has expanded its footprint in Jamaica with the inauguration of a new branch in the western parish of Westmoreland.
This expansion will create employment opportunities for an additional 800 Jamaicans, complementing the company’s existing workforce of 3,700 on the island.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Tuesday in Llandilo, Jake Becker, Senior Vice-President of Operations and Country Manager for Teleperformance Jamaica, highlighted the company’s commitment to its employees and their families. Becker emphasized that the decision to open the new branch in Westmoreland was driven by a desire to enhance the comfort and productivity of its employees, many of whom currently travel daily from this region. He noted, “The high performance of our employees is closely linked to their comfort, and opening this location is a step towards making their work life more comfortable and productive.”
The event, marking Teleperformance’s official entry into Westmoreland, was attended by prominent local figures including Reverend Hartley D. Perrin, Custos of Westmoreland; George Wright, Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central; Danree Delancy, Mayor of Savanna-la-Mar; and Moses Chybar, Chairman of the Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce, along with several other guests.
Reverend Perrin hailed the new facility as a transformative development for the parish. “This is a game-changer for Westmoreland,” he stated, adding, “We have never had anything of this magnitude to employ our young people. Westmoreland has been known for crime and violence, and there was a time we were number one for crime. This facility is a beacon of hope and a rising star in the west.”
Mayor Delancy echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the significance of the launch for both Teleperformance and the local community. “This is a catalyst for economic growth for the residents,” Delancy remarked. “The BPO sector is a key driver of the Jamaican economy, contributing significantly to our GDP. This new Teleperformance facility underscores the company’s confidence in Jamaica, as they could have chosen any other country for this expansion.”
Teleperformance, which operates in over 80 countries worldwide, now boasts two locations in Jamaica, with plans to further expand to the eastern part of the island soon.
